Activities
Why Gloucester?Gloucestershire is a gorgeous county with loads to do and many of you have not had the pleasure.Website for Gloucestershire: www.visit-glos.org.uk What is there to do around Gloucester?!Contrary to Londoners belief, there is life outside the capital.Gloucestershire is where Prince Charles has his country home, although I doubt an invitation there will drop on our doorsteps! Have a look at our little list of Sights below (which is not exhaustive) below and see what appeals to you or check out the links. Some stuff doesn’t even cost anything. Bearing in mind that Guy Fawkes (Bonfire) Night which is on 5th November and falls on the coming Tuesday, there should be places that we can go to with a bonfire and fireworks on Saturday night Bring WARM clothes for that. SightsCathedralOne of the most impressive ones in the country (which you can climb to the top of). Some of Harry Potter was filmed there.A Benedictine abbey church (1089) & Chapter House with the earliest perpendicular work & fan vaulting. The Great East window commemorates the Battle of Crecy in 1346. King Edward II is buried there. Close to the Cathedral is the House of the Tailor of Gloucester, the actual shop that Beatrix Potter used as a model for the Tailor's home in her famous story "The Tailor of Gloucester". www.gloucestercathedral.uk.com
The DocksVictorian docks and warehouses now restored offers a mixture of things including museums, specialist shops, restaurants bars and cafes.Further afieldIf anyone is interested in these, transportation will have to be arranged.Depending on how many
of us there are and who brings cars, we may not need to involve any
public transportation at all. CheltenhamCheltenham is a gorgeous up market town about 5 miles from Gloucester with its famous horse race track.Has wonderful shops
and there is a wonderful health spa where you can get pampered.
